Charge

The Instructional Advisory Committee on Computing (IACC) is a standing committee responsible for providing input from users of computing and communications services to the Information Resources Management Policy and Planning Committee (IRMPPC) and to the Vice Provost for Information Technology/Chief Information Officer (VP/CIO) and for communicating information about computing and communications to the constituencies they represent.

The IACC is charged with identifying the information technology requirements of faculty and instructional programs, and making recommendations on both operational and policy and planning matters that impact the integration and use of information technology by faculty to support and enhance the teaching and learning process, instructional programs and research.

IACC members are appointed annually by the president based on nominations by the designated authorities. Appointments are for two years except the student and Academic Senate representatives who serve for one year. Ad hoc members and guests from ITS and other campus units may be invited by the chair to participate on an as needed basis to address specific issues under discussion.

Functions

The IACC is responsible for advising the university community regarding information technology requirements and activities of the academic community. Its main focus is on identifying the information technology requirements and expectations of the academic colleges, instructional programs, and faculty as a whole.

The IACC identifies, analyzes, and reports the information technology needs of all academic programs and faculty to the IRMPPC, VP/CIO and others as appropriate. A central function of the IACC is to work in collaboration with Information Technology Services to develop goals, policies, and plans to enhance the ability of faculty to use information technologies effectively in addressing their teaching and learning missions. The IACC is responsible for maintaining a current strategic goals document and reviewing university progress toward meeting those goals.

The IACC members are responsible for seeking input from and disseminating information to their constituents regarding needs and priorities, performance expectations, decisions, policies, plans, trends, and issues involving information technology, especially as related to instruction, research and other professional activities.

Meetings

The committee will meet with sufficient frequency to ensure a positive and effective voice in university computing affairs.
